Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

Our teacher is Mrs Whalley.  

Mrs Bannister and Mrs Hill also support us with our work.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.

Matthew Chapter 5 : Verse 9

In English, a small number of the class are following the Read Write Inc programme. Fred is helping them to improve their phonics knowledge, reading , spelling and handwriting.  The rest of the class are studying the classic book ‘The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graeme’.

Our whole school target is to

 develop punctuation.

In Maths we are working hard to secure our understanding of addition and subtraction strategies and building on our prior knowledge.

·           Lancashire County Council have launched a new programme to help promote and encourage  reading for purpose and pleasure.  We are delighted to be taking part in this new initiative and Year 2 recently visited Coal Clough Library to watch the highly entertaining

Alan In Wonderland and the Three Goats Plus

performed by Booster Cushion Theatre.

 

Homework day is Thursday.

Weekly spellings are given out every Friday for a test the following Friday.

Home readers should be read for at least 5 minutes every night and reading records returned daily.

PE is on  Wednesdays and Fridays.  Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school.

SATs start the week beginning Monday 7th May and will be spread out over a period of three weeks.
