Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Our teachers are Mrs Scholes and Mrs Stevenson.

Miss Reid also supports us with our work.

Our Bible Verse is “God looked at all he had created and it was good” Genesis 1:31

In our English lessons, we have been continuing to follow the Read Write Inc. programme. We have been learning lots of new sounds and we have been using Fred Talk to help us read words. We have been enjoying reading different stories and we have been writing sentences about them.

In our Maths lessons, we have been learning about place value. We have found out how many tens and how many units numbers have and we have ordered numbers up to 100!  We have been given numbers up to 100 and then we have used a hundred square to find out what it 1 more/less and 10 more/less than the number. We have practised different ways to add and subtract numbers and we have solved word problems.

 Great Explorers!

Our Topic this half term is called Great Explorers! We have been finding out about two famous explorers: Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus. We are looking forward to travelling back in time to design and make a rocket so that we can travel to the moon with Neil Armstrong.

We have been working very hard all year on our Phonics. We have learnt lots of different sounds and we have been practising spotting these sounds in words before blending them together to read the word. In June, we will all be taking part in the Phonics Screening Check. We will need to read 40 words altogether. Some will be real words and some will be alien words (nonsense words).

We have been doing lots of practise in class and we are all becoming Phonics Super Stars!
